Advocating for Transgender Rights and Equality in Kenya
Kodera Trans Women Group (KTWG) is a transgender rights organization focused on advocacy for gender identity recognition, gender expression, and inclusive policies. We work towards justice and equality for trans people. Rooted in our movements, we work collaboratively with strategic partners at the national and global level to provide access, knowledge, and resources. KTWG is registered as a non-profit organization in Kenya.
KTWG envisions a society free from human rights violations based on gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics.
KTWG is an advocacy organization working towards justice and equality for trans people. We are raising awareness, movement building, advocacy, capacity building, information dissemination, and economic justice.
KTWG believes in upholding the following core principles:
Sharing facts about transgender issues in Kenya and the stigma faced by the community.
Working with local trans people and allies to amplify voices and demands for equality.
Advocating for changes in law, supporting legal challenges, and demanding recognition of transgender rights.
Providing educational workshops, leadership training, and community-building activities for the trans community.
Offering support for economic empowerment initiatives for transgender people.

The organization has been addressing human rights abuses reported by the transgender people as well as facilitates the process of access to justice by linking them to essential services such as psychosocial counselling, legal representation, collective care where trans people telling their stories through art therapy, trans people learn about the signs, causes, myths, facts and human rights issues surrounding transgender and the marginalization. We have won a case in court that allows transgender people to change their name in legal documents, 13 transgender people have won their cases in court against employers discrimination due to their gender identity, 5 cases over arbitrary arrest and prosecution by police and 2 cases over discrimination in housing. Provided human rights education to over 100 transgender people and collective care to about 500 trans people, provided therapy, helping them to speak out and connect with trans-community and healing support.
